For my daughter and her husband's anniversary I did a portrait based on their engagement photo.
I did the Renaissance Seven Layer method for the faces and hands. Then completed the background and clothing with a pallet knife.
Unfortunately I forgot to phonograph the first couple layers. 1, The sketch, 2, The darks and lights
3. The Umber layer - 5 shades of brown.
4. The Monochromatic under painting - 9 shades of gray.
5 and 6. First and second color layers - color glazes
7. The highlights on the brightest spots

A friend sent me a photo of the dog Myrtle. She belonged to a friend of his and passed away a couple weeks ago. He thought his friend would like a portrait of her. I remembered to take pictures as I painted.
I cropped the photo and sketched the dog onto a 11x14 panel. Started painting the hardest part first, the eyes, then the nose and mouth. Then worked the ears and down the body. Finally painting the background. Decided the eyes were too orange and did a brown glaze on them.
